How to find a bathing suit that is confidence building, looks chic, fits your body and doesn’t make you feel like you’ve gone to war to find it
Does bathing suit shopping fill you with so much dread you’d rather skip the pool or beach altogether?
Separates. One-pieces. Halters. Underwire. High waist. String. Polka dots.
Omg.
This. One. Has. A. BELT.
Okaaaay.
So, you commit and buy seventeen types of bathing suits in two (or three) different sizes to try on at home. It’ll be less painful there…right?
Enough.
Being an expert in various body shapes and sizes is a key part of the LGY Shopping Method. I’m giving that knowledge here because I want to help you find a bathing suit you feel dynamic, sexy and excited to wear!
Your best fitting bathing suits begins today.
Understand your body shape better
Understanding your body’s geometry empowers you.
With it, it is remarkably easier to see what will fit you and even easier to put outfits together.
Clothes become confidence-boosting and fun to wear.
Understanding how to interpret the shape of your body makes online or in-store shopping easy-breezy because you can better understand how an item will look on YOU no matter what kind of model or hanger is wearing it.
This ain’t some junky-junk “what you can or cannot wear for your body” article.
LGY says: wear whatever makes you feel good.
BUT.
If you struggle to feel like a babe or have go-to outfits that you love, let’s get you shopping successfully and styling outfits confidently by understanding your body better.
Decide what you love about your body and highlight it using the lines, color and shape of a bathing suit
Bathing suits are as close to being naked in public as you can get.
Which is why they make you vulnerable.
It’s hard to hide our insecure parts in a bathing suit.
So screw it. Don’t hide. Let insecurity come out and drown her with confidence.
Focus on showing off what you consider the good stuff and start strutting.
By emphasizing your fav bits, you naturally deemphasize your least favorite bits, making them more and more insignificant as your confidence grows. The competency you gain as your shopping and personal styling skills develop become armor against bad fitting room lighting and terrible fashion designs.
Read on for the goods, girlfriend.
High cut suits can create longer legs and/or make you look more shapely because the line sits at your hips. It makes a waist look narrower and legs longer (whether you’re already curvy or not).
Whose it best for: anyone who wants longer looking legs, a narrower waist and/or look like they have more curves.

2. Bottoms with a cheekier cut (less coverage, more butt) make a butt appear rounder and higher. A wider cut makes it wider. Same with hips. Wide cut hits at widest body part = wider looking body part. It’s because the eye goes to the point where skin meets fabric.
Whose it best for: anyone who wants to have a perkier looking butt and isn’t afraid to flash some extra skin. Anyone who has a larger booty but doesn’t like when it looks flat and wide.
3. Halter tops show off shoulders and support med-biggish boobs.
Sexy how it gives teardrop cleavage too, no?
Whose it best for: It’s very flattering if your breasts are a similar teardrop (sometimes considered “droopy” or “saggy” but whatever) shape. Anyone who was a little cleavage.
4. Color can enhance or distract. Small prints do too. Buttons also. These details distracts our eye. It can draw attention or disorient us from one part of something.
Whose it best for: everybody. This is found in nearly every suit. It’s the most malleable of these tips.
5. Show some skin and décolletage in deep-v’s.
Whose it for: little tittied ladies and bold babes.
Try various colors, prints or details that harmonize your shape and personal style.
Psst. You can combine these tips.
Remember the tip about prints?!
You can combine these tips. Use as many as you need to create your personal style.
6. Pay attention to stitching or ruching.
For ex: this black one widens your shoulder as it peaks towards the top. The stitching in the waist and along the bodice create definition, furthering the effect.
Whose it best for: Anyone. The ruching and lines can vary so much it all depends on the area you want to enhance. If you’re smaller on top in your shoulders but curvier on bottom try a wide shoulder bathing suit like the black one.
7. Underwire and balconette bras are practical without compromising the cute.
Whose it best for: These tops will give more ooomph if your boobs need more support or tend to ummm…move south (like mine do)!
8. Extended or plus size shoppers can follow these same tips. Getting dressed is about your style preferences and what you are comfortable in. If you prefer more coverable or support, this suit is a sweet example.
Below for ex: print + deep v + ruching + lines = looking bomb.
